Course Description: This course establishes a deeper understanding of the civic accountability, economic, educational, environmental, human-rights, and the political issues and challenges that our society is now facing; thus, utilizing the investigative skills, data analysis, critical-thinking, effective communication, research skills by being honest and prudent.
I. Objectives: At the end of the first quarter, the students are expected to:
A. define calamities;
B. describe the different types of calamities experienced by the community and country;
C. explain the connection between people’s decisions and actions to the existence of calamities;
D. realize the importance of proper management and cooperation between citizens and government during calamities;
E. analyze the socio-cultural effects of calamities;
F. examine the effects of climate change on the environment, society, and livelihood of the people, on a local and global scale; and
G. discuss the government efforts in facing environmental problems in one’s community
