COURSE OUTLINE
English 4
FIRST QUARTER
Course Description: The learner listens critically to various text types and expresses ideas accurately in both oral and written forms; demonstrates confidence in the use of the language to meet every day needs; and reads independently to get relevant information from various text types.
I. Objectives: At the end of the first quarter, the grade four pupils are expected to:
A. be grateful to God for His gifts of nature by expressing their care for mother nature through observing cleanliness,
showing sympathy and empathy to the helpless and the maltreated animals and by scholarly expressing his /her
thoughts and ideas through correct simple paragraph writing, artistic comic strip and slogan or sayings that will
prevent others and oneself from danger.
B. follow the conventions of writing a paragraph and be able to apply them correctly in expressing ideas through the
different text forms.
C. construct clear and coherent sentences employing appropriate grammatical structures: Kinds of Nouns, functions
and cases as foundation in writing a paragraph.
D. apply the personal pronouns correctly to show agreement with their noun antecedents (case, gender, number) for
coherence and clarity.
E. unlock the unfamiliar words and gain understanding about the meaning cited in the texts through vocabulary skills
as context clues, vocabulary report, correct spelling of sight words, synonyms / antonyms.
F. comprehend the text read through noting details, sequence events, main idea, fact and opinion, compare and
contrast, analogy, interpreting graphs, cause and effect, and predicting outcome to easily share insights during
class discussion and exchange ideas with others from whom they could learn from and emulate the good values.

7. Identify different meanings of content specific words
through structural analysis (denotation and connotation)
B. Grammar
1. Use clear and coherent sentences employing
appropriate grammatical structures:
Kinds of Nouns, functions and cases
2. Use personal pronouns in sentences-agreement
of personal pronouns with the noun antecedent
(case, gender, number)
C. Valuing
