FIRST QUARTER
Course Description: The learner listens critically to different text types; expresses ideas logically in oral and written forms; and demonstrates interest in reading to meet various needs. The learner listens critically to news reports and other radio broadcasts and expresses ideas accurately in oral and in written forms; demonstrates confidence in the use of the language to meet everyday needs; and reads independently and gets relevant information from various text types.
I. Objectives: At the end of the first quarter the grade five pupils should be able to:
A. observe tact in communicating with others in oral and written forms as sign of a well-formed
and disciplined individual who contributes peace and positivity to his/her community.
B. appreciate God’s gifts through respect and care for the environment as an expression of gratitude to the many
favors and blessings s/he has received
C. analyze the selection through its basic elements, and the reading skills as: noting significant details, predicting
outcomes, following instructions, comparison and contrast and the literary devices like figurative language, and
literary techniques to interpret the selections.
D. construct sentences and paragraphs by expressing clear and coherent grammar structures with correct plural
forms of regular and irregular nouns, cases of nouns, agreement of the pronouns as referents (number, gender,
cases).
E. follow instructions given as expressed correctly in his/her tasks like filling-out forms accurately, unlocking of
unfamiliar words through various techniques for clarity of ideas and correct output.
II. Contents:
A. Reading and Writing
1. Identify the elements of literary

3. Infer the meaning of unfamiliar words using text clues based on: definition exemplification, synonyms/antonyms, analogy, situational 4. Fill-out forms accurately (school forms, deposit and withdrawal slips, etc.) 5. Following instruction 6. Using Capitalization 7. Infer the speaker’s tone, mood, and purpose 8. Analyze figures of speech (simile, metaphor,personification, hyperbole) in a given text 9. Analyze a two-stanza poem it terms of its elements (rhymes, sound devices, imagery, and figurative language) classifying sensory words 10. Compare and contrast 11.summarizing using the story pyramid 12. Predicting outcome |
