FIRST QUARTER

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts and principles of numbers and number sense (sets and real number system); measurement (conversion of units of measurement; patterns and algebra (algebraic expressions and properties of real number as applied in linear equations and inequalities in one variable); geometry (sides and angles of polygons); and statistics and probability (data collection and presentation, and measures of central tendency and variability) as applied – using appropriate technology – in critical thinking, problem solving, reasoning communicating, making connections, representations, and decision in real life.

I. Objectives: At the end of the quarter, the learners should be able to:

1. demonstrate understanding of key concepts of sets and the real number system
2. formulate challenging situations involving sets and real numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies

3. Use of Venn diagram to represent sets

B. Absolute value of a number

C. Integers

1. Fundamental operations on integers
2. Properties of operations on integers

D. Rational and Irrational Numbers

1. Operation on rational numbers
2. Principal roots
3. Estimating square root of a number
4. Plotting irrational number on a number line

E. Real Numbers

1. Subsets of real numbers
2. Arranging real numbers
3. Solving problems involving real numbers

F. Scientific Notation
